I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at Indiana University Northwest. My research focuses on two interconnected areas: the economics of intellectual property theft and the pricing of information transmission. Because intellectual property theft is clandestine, I frequently construct variables from unstructured data (primarily text). As a result, I am also interested in large-scale text processing methods and the statistical properties of text-based variables, particularly the advantages and disadvantages of AI/ML algorithms relative to simple word counts. I spent five years in the asset management industry and continue to study portfolio construction, currently focusing on the integration of alternative data and quantitative methods.
