I am an Assistant Professor of Finance at Indiana University Northwest. My current research focuses on two broad areas: economics of intellectual property theft and pricing of information transmission across markets and securities. I often use variables constructed from unstructured, high-dimensional data. As a result, I am also interested in large-scale processing methods, statistical properties of text-based measures, interactions with the conventional (numeric) variables, and robust inference. A particular area of focus for me is determining whether AI/ML algorithms perform tangibly better than the measures based on word counts and frequencies. AI/ML models are often opaque and computationally intensive, while simpler algorithms are both more transparent and easier to estimate.
